The Livestock Barn

One of the latest additions to the O’Hara Homestead, this Livestock barn allows visitors to take a step back into the history of general farming. The O’Hara livestock barn is a modest reproduction of a what a general livestock barn would have been like in the late 1800s.

The hand-hewn timber frame structure was first built in Tyendinaga township in the 1840s. It was dismantled by a group of neighbourhood farmers and moved to O'Hara Mill Homestead, coming to life again with a 'barn raising' in the fall of 2019. A number of other materials were salvaged from local farms. 

Typical of many barns of the 19th century, the O’Hara Livestock barn houses a wide variety of components. Inside you will find a granary, pig pen and hen house, along with equipment including a hay fork and trolley, a cream separator and a pig scale.
