The O'Hara Dolls

WHAT IS IT WEDNESDAY/ AUGUST 26TH, 2020

Today we are going to take a look at two treasured items from the O’Hara family. These much loved dolls have years of stories they could tell if they could talk.

The first doll pictured on the right belonged to Minnie O’Hara, who would be later known as Aunt Min, who was born in 1863. The doll dates back to the 1840s and has a wax head and wooden arms and legs. The style of clothing dates back to 1868-9.

The second doll pictured on the right belonged to Frank O’Hara, the son of James and Jane O’Hara. This small dark haired doll is made with a china head and legs. This doll is well loved, as can be seen by the missing feet that have broken off over time. Its clothes are also worn from age, but the dress features a brown flower pattern.

While today we might see these dolls as looking rather creepy, at the time they were the norm. These dolls were greatly loved by their owners and passed through the family seeing years of love.
