SUNDAYS IN THE GARDEN/ JULY 19TH, 2020

Today we are going to take a look at another interesting herb from our herb garden. The herb of the day is Bee Balm, also known as Bergamot.

This unique plant is part of the mint family, which you can tell by looking at it’s leaves. It grows very beautiful flowers that are known to attract butterflies and humming birds!

Now lets look at some of the medicinal and practical uses of Bee Balm. Bee Balm is used to help treat colds and has been used on wounds to help healing. If you dry the leaves of Bee Balm, they can be used to protect cured meats, berries, and even people by repelling insects! And of course, like many herbs, the flowers can be made into a relaxing herbal tea!

A very interesting historical fact about Bee Balm is that it was used as a British Tea substitute during the “Boston Tea Party” !

Thats all from the sunny garden today. We hope you enjoyed learning about Bee Balm and remember to come out and see the herb garden and its beauty yourself sometime soon!
