Potato Stamping
FOR THE KIDS/ JULY 25TH, 2020
Welcome back everyone. Today we are going to be showing you how to do the fun pioneer craft of potato stamping!
This craft was one that was commonly used as a cheap alternative to store bought stamps. If you had a potato, you had the ability to make a stamp! These stamps would have also been used in some cases to decorate walls in homes with repeating designs.
Here is what you need:
a potato
paint
a small carving knife
a piece of paper
paper towel
something to lay your paint on (a piece of cardboard works well)
To start out you will need to cut your potato in half. Once this is done decide what shapes you want to make. Carve the shapes into the potato so that your desired shape is sticking out(see image 1), make sure an adult does this as the knife can be very sharp!
Once you have your shape you will want to choose your paint colour and put some on a surface to dip your stamp in. Make sure the paint is spread out enough that your stamp will be covered fully.
Then stamp away on a piece of paper. You can use paper towel to wipe off the potato and choose a new colour!
And now you know how to create and use your very own potato stamp!
